UK Day Trip – Ripley’s Believe it or Not, London

Posted on August 20, 2013

I had never been to a ‘Ripley’s Believe It or Not!’ before, and to be completely honest I wasn’t 100% sure what to expect.  It certainly was completely full of the unexpected!! Some of the exhibits were pretty weird (in a very good way) and some just downright grisly. All in all a perfect trip out for the whole family, especially for children who can’t get enough of the freaky and stranger sides of life…isn’t that all of them?!

Set over 6 floors in the middle of London’s Piccadilly Circus it is absolutely amazing how much they manage to cram in. And actually I think we could probably go around it again tomorrow and see so many things we missed as there’s just so much there. We will definitely be returning!

Some of our favourite exhibits were –

The JFK picture made out of moths…a bit eeewww but then you have to just keep looking!

And the Princess Diana made completely from lint!!

Each floor has a distinct theme including famous faces such as those above (and a Michael Jackson picture made completely from sweets and licorice!), under the sea, dungeon, and weird and wonderful nature.

I have to say the staff could not have been better. They were really attentive and helped us get from floor to floor, and were great at giving tips on which areas would be best for our children. We had brought our stroller/push chair with us and the staff made sure it was easy for us to get around.

There’s a great cafe area part way through the museum which is a good place to rest and get refreshments, while the children can play and still look at the exhibits.

We loved the water which was the temperature of the sea the night the Titanic went down – what a great way to help understand, if only a little, just how horrendous plunging into that water must have been.

Some of the displays were straight out of the Victorian freak shows – wax works of real people who existed as living exhibits at the time they were alive. I love my 6 year old’s reaction here!!

We all really loved the amazing mirror maze – you literally couldn’t work out which way to go – baffling and hilarious all at once.

And we finished up with the great laser show – make believe we were spies trying to get out undetected…not sure the producers of the next James Bond will be calling anytime soon given how well – or not – we did!!

Ripley’s Believe it or Not is in a good location in bustling central London and is a great place to spend a few hours experiencing some of the stranger sides of the world. It is definitely good fun for families with just so much for every age group. Weird and wonderful Ripley’s!
