Lollibop’s change of venue this year to the Olympic Park added some real excitement to the proceedings, even before the event got underway. It really felt like 2013 was the year that Lollibop ‘arrived’ and delivered for kids and Mums and Dads alike.

I was really intrigued to see how the site would lend itself to a children’s festival, especially one that packs so much into its days. We found getting across London on the Sunday a real breeze and the venue was big enough to handle all that Lollibop packs in, without feeling too crowded.

Lollibop is a day festival event and as such is a real attraction for those who want the excitement and activity of a children’s festival, who don’t much like the idea of a night under canvas. One of the main draws for us was the promise of enthusiastic Cbeebies and CBBC presenters and they certainly didn’t disappoint.

Our children were particularly excited as many of their ‘heroes’ from the telly were happy to meet-and-greet and pose for keepsake photos.

When Justin Fletcher took to the stage, and later when we were entertained by Dick-and-Dom, the event really took off and the noise levels from the children were something else. Definitely the Beatles for kids!!

There were also opportunities to see some of our favourite characters from TV programmes too,  which were repeated during the day so there were plenty of chances to see them. Rastamouse was a really big hit with us and with the rest of the crowd too.

The wealth of activities, food stalls and tempting tents filled with things to buy, or just to nose around makes for a nice escape away from the main stages. There was so much to do and we found ourselves busying with colouring, face-painting or even a bit of dancing!

One gripe was the length of time it took to get food. Fortunately we always go prepared with snacks, which kept us going while we waited. Once the food arrived (we had toasted sandwiches) it was really good quality and filled us up ready for more entertainment. There were also loads of great healthy options – like huge chunks of watermelon which was perfect for cooling off!

Lollibop suited us down to the ground and for our three (two of whom are pre-schoolers) it was a really exciting day, filled with lots of exciting activities, memorable moments with cbeebies stars and a great, unique “lollibop” atmosphere.

Will we go next year? You betcha!!
