San Diego Day Trips

There are plenty of places for day trips from San Diego. I really wanted to take the trip over the border into Mexico for the day but we decided the situation there at the moment was a bit too volatile to take the children, hopefully in the future this will change.

– Julian

One of our tastiest day trips was to the apple pie town of Julian. It is just an hours drive East of San Diego and the drive there was stunning.  Julian is well known for it’s apple pies and it was great to be able to see them being made. And then, of course, how could we not stop for an apple pie and a hot chocolate…which was delicious. On the way home there was a low fog hanging over the trees which at times was quite eery but very beautiful.

– Pretend City

Pretend city is about an hour and a half from San Diego in Irvine. It is as it says, a pretend city with smaller versions of everything from roads with traffic lights to fire station, farm, doctor’s surgery, restaurant etc My children loved it, driving about on little cars, calling for help from the police station and working in the restaurant. They even have a pretend farm you can dig up the vegetables from and sell to the supermarket for pretend money!!

– Laguna Beach

Well we fell in love with Laguna Beach. With its lovely playground on the sand, gorgeous shops to browse, diners and heavenly ice cream parlours. It was picture perfect and we travelled twice to enjoy the calm and beauty of Laguna Beach.

This is the perfect place to get away from hustle and bustle. The shops aren’t cheap but a picnic on the beach here or even just stopping by for an ice cream and to breath in the sea air is enough to rejuvenate and our children didn’t want to leave the play area.
